Wild, impulsive, indulgent filmmaker Ken Russell worked some serious magic and synesthesia in the Seventies. You might know him best as the director of The Who’s TOMMY or the sci-fi brainbomb ALTERED STATES. In anticipation of the upcoming theatrical re-release of Russell’s THE DEVILS, tonight we’ll watch the guy’s other stone-cold masterpiece from the same year of 1971. On paper, the idea of Richard Chamberlain playing 19th-century Russian composer Tchaikovsky sounds a little dry…but not for a second in Russell’s world.
