ROCKY HORROR, PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE, HAIR, XANADU, STARLIGHT EXPRESS, JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR, and the Eurovision Song Contest all rolled into one. For the past few decades, the whackadoo 1980 musical The Apple has held an iron grip on our imagination. This glammed-out “Adam & Eve”-type tale has everything going for it: coked-out costumes, bonehead lyrics seemingly written by children, amateurish choreography (by the future producer of “American Idol”, no less), an early appearance by Catherine Mary Stewart, and enough silly sci-fi touches for a dozen Star Treks. Tonight, we celebrate this cinematic milestone by mainlining all of the film’s musical numbers.
