MHV #296: DANGER STORIES - A WORD SALAD SYMPHONY

Created by Bret for AGFA (American Genre Film Archive), this frantic ode to culture jammers like Negativland and Bruce Conner takes 30+ hours of 20th-century health-and-safety “scare films” and mixes them into 60 minutes of mirthful musical terror. Here we take the jittery “word salad” edit aesthetic to new heights; it’s one of the most out-there pieces we’ve ever cut. The raw material for this mix is courtesy of Something Weird Video: the legacy home video label from Seattle that specializes in mid-century exploitation films and other detritus.
